In Remembrance of the Revered King Bhumibol Adulyadej
His Majesty the Late King Bhumibol Adulyadej was the youngest son of Prince Mahidol, the Prince of Songkhla and Princess Srinagarindra, the Princess Mother. His Majesty was born on Monday 5 December 1927 at Mount Auburn Hospital in Cambridge, Massachusetts United States. The late king was the youngest sibling of eldest Princess Galyani Vadhana and elder brother Prince Ananda Mahidol.
2 years later, the Prince Father passed away, his Princess Mother whom Thai people called “The Royal Grandma” had well nurtured up and took care of her the one princess and the two princes at Villa Wattana, Switzerland.
In 1934, His Majesty King Prajadhipok (the King Rama VII) renounced the royal throne, Prince Ananda Mahidol would be the first person in the royal line of succession. Anyway His Majesty King Ananda Mahidol (the King Rama VIII) had succession to the royal throne for 12 years. After accidental death of the King Rama VIII on 9 June 1946, His Majesty King Bhumibol Aduljyadej ascended the royal throne as the ninth monarch of Thailand from the Chakri Dynasty.
“His Majesty, don’t leave your people!” One of Thais voiced out loudly while the late King Bhumibol was driving pass the crowd on 19 August 1946 before he would fly to continue his studying in Switzerland. At the moment the late King pledged in his mind “If people don’t leave me, how could I leave my people?
“I’ve met her, she is really lovely” While the late King was studying abroad, His Majesty met MR Sirikit Kitiyakara and told the Princess Mother his appreciation in her loveliness. His Majesty and MR Sirikit held the royal engagement on 19 July 1949 at Lausanne, Switzerland.
In February 1950, the late King went back to Bangkok prior to his royal wedding at Srapathum Palace on 28 April 1950. On 5 May 1950, His Majesty associated with the coronation ceremony, he pledged that “We shall reign with righteousness for the benefit and happiness of the Siamese people”. This statement have impressed all Thais mind until today.
After coming back to Bangkok, the late King chose the Chitralada Villa Royal Residence as his residence and also conducted agricultural experiment in the palace area to solve many agricultural problems, initiating the “Royal Chitralada Project” later.
In 1957, Her Royal Highness Princess Chulabhorn Walailak, the youngest princess of 4 siblings was born. It was the greatest time for Thais to revere and glorify the one prince and 3 princesses.
The 4th decade of His Majesty life (1958-1967) was the Decade of Diplomacy in Asia, Europe and America continents- totally 10 countries. This was a very great history scene impressed in Thais’ memories.
The late King’s first pillar of works was visiting and seeing his people in all regions, originated the Royal Projects more than 4,000 projects later.
In 1963, His Majesty initiated Royal Projects in the aspect of winter season plant and flower research and development to resolve the drugs spreading problem and replace opium growing. This is count as the first pace of a royal project changing the way of people living.
There was the major political uprising of 14 October 1973 with riot in front of Chitralada Villa Royal Resident. The late King compel to open the palace gate to allow people coming in for their safety. His Majesty gave a royal address in The Television Pool of Thailand. The crisis was then gradually calm down.
In the 14th development year of Artificial Rainmaking Research and Development Project, His Majesty had achieved the laboratory and experiment outcomes to decrease the drought land. The pilot test was held over the Khoa Yai National Park area.
The following decade (1978-1987) was time to expand and explore the huge number of Royal Projects such as Huai Sai Basin Royal Development Study Center or Pangtong Royal Project Development Center. These projects have enhanced the Thais better living in a certain area.
Even when Thailand was facing the economic crisis is 1997, His Majesty philosophy on sufficiency economy then lightened up a solution to lead the nation toward sustainable survival.
In 2006 at the 60th Anniversary Celebrations of Bhumibol Adulyadej's Accession, when Majesty held the grand audience at the Balcony of Anantasamakhom Throne Hall, Dusit Royal Palace, people there from all over the country loudly echoed their congratulation “Long Live the King”.
Throughout a period of over 70 years this Majesty never stop working even at the Siriraj Hospital,the real last royal residence.
Heaven is where His Majesty resides. World is we who are weeping; Uttering our greatest respect; For the greatest benevolence departing.
So well aware is our heart and our soul; Of how kindest our Greatest King is. Bowing graciously Oh we are vowing; For eternity we are at Your Majesty attending.
